Since the early 2000's there has been a cafe located where the Black Bean is now. From 2009 to 2017 it was owned, and operated, by the Carter's and it was during this time that the recipes for the now "world famous" scones, muffins, soups and sandwiches were created. It was also during this period that the fine tuning was done regarding the roasting of organically sourced , arabica, beans which produce the "select" taste that our customers have come to love.

In late 2017 ownership passed to Monica and Charles Brisbeau and in 2020 ownership passed onto siblings David and Rebecca Bristow.  Their intention was, and continues to be, to honour and appreciate all that has gone before and to gradually make changes in areas that they feel can be improved or "spiced up a bit!"

The Black Bean is a warm and welcoming environment and  a regular "hang out" for many of the local residents but it is also a popular stop over for many of those who are travelling through Gibsons on their way up the coast or back to the mainland.

With seating for 30 inside and 25 on the attractive patio the cafe is surprisingly spacious
